Rain - EN 343:2019
Personal protective equipment
Clothing to protect against rain
This standard specifies the requirements and testing methods for clothing to protect against inclement weather (precipitation such as rain or snow), fog and ground-level moisture and the seams of such clothing.
Protection against rain is measured in two ways: resistance to water penetration and evaporative resistance.
The icon must be accompanied by the relevant performance levels:
- Water vapour resistance classification: Class 1 to 4 (Class 4 being the highest)
- Water penetration resistance classification: Class 1 to 4 (Class 4 being the highest)
- Rain tower test result (optional)
By combining high water penetration resistance with low water vapour resistance, body temperature and humidity can be better controlled, resulting in increased comfort.
