ATEX ZONES – Explosive Atmospheres
An ATEX zone (Explosive Atmosphere) is a hazardous area where the atmosphere is likely to be explosive (mixtures of flammable substance in the air, such as gases, vapours, dusts or fibres).
The aim is to avoid any sparks that could trigger an explosion in these areas, and to achieve this, the garments must comply with the antistatic standard EN 1149-5. The ISO 11612 Heat and Flames standard is also recommended, as is the EN 61482-2 Electric Arc, to protect you if necessary.
Note: there is no specific “ATEX” standard for clothing, but rather clothing that is compatible with working conditions in an ATEX zone.
