Food Industry Collection: clothing for the food industry
In short
This workwear collection is intended for professionals working in food industry production. Combining safety, comfort and above all hygiene in compliance with sector standards, it is easily adapted to the needs of employees in the production plant.
As a workwear supplier, Elis can provide appropriate inventory delivered in line with the needs of your employees. In fact, in the food industry, the emphasis is very much on hygiene, so your employees regularly change their work garments. Choosing Elis means you can be sure they will always be well equipped, thanks to our automatic clothing dispenser solution.
Reference framework and standards
Elis created its Food Industry range in line with the recommendations of DIN standard 10524, the only standard that gives recommendations about the construction of workwear for professionals in food industry production. The reference framework of this standard aims to avoid any negative impact of inappropriate or poorly fitting garments on food products. The requirements of DIN 10524 specifically cover the fabrics and design of workwear according to three risk levels.
In addition, our workwear solutions provide a rigorous, structured response to the expectations of the various standards and benchmark players in the sector, such as Tesco, which has developed a best practice repository for the food industry sector.

Risk levels
Three risk levels have been set on the basis of the product’s vulnerability to contamination hazards, the production process and the type of end consumers.
Our solutions incorporate characteristics that address each of these risks in their design.
Maximum-risk production areas
Employees in this field will be in contact with highly perishable or ready-to-eat products such as fish, steak tartare, chilled ready meals, prepared salads, or dairy products.
These products require optimum hygiene rules. To prevent the development of micro-organisms, food industry garments for this area do not feature pockets.
Workwear in maximum-risk areas must be changed at least once a day or more often if required (in the event of soiling).
High-risk production areas
This risk category is aimed at wearers of food industry garments who handle easily perishable or unpackaged foodstuffs such as cold cuts, cheese, cakes, pastries, or beverages.
For this area, the food-handling jacket only has inner pockets with flaps, which prevent objects from falling out and contaminating food; and the trousers feature pockets that close with snap fasteners.
High-risk areas must ensure that food-handling garments are changed on a daily basis.
Low-risk production areas
This type of area is for employees handling non-perishable food such as fruit and vegetables, spices, pasta or cans.
Presenting a lower risk than the previous two, the food-handling jacket features external pockets with flaps and snap fasteners. The cuffs are adjustable and have snap fasteners or ribbing to ensure that the wearer’s clothing does not come into contact with food.
Workwear in this category can be changed weekly.
