Elis and ESMod Lyon collaborate on a collection of 100% upcycled clothing

As part of its CSR commitment, Elis was keen to promote its circular economy approach through upcycling (recycling) by issuing a challenge to ESMOD students: to create a capsule collection of 16 outfits for an internal and international event, made only from end-of-life Elis textiles.

Founded in 1841 by Alexis Lavigne, a French tailor and inventor, the Graduate School of Fashion Arts and Techniques (ESMOD) is the oldest fashion school in the world.

The director of the school, Alain Boix, as well as the teachers and students were very interested and motivated by this totally upcycled fashion collection project.

Thus, at the beginning of January 2022, the students embarked on this Elis competition, in groups of 4 (two students in model making and two in communication) and worked energetically for 1 whole week to present to the jury:

  • an outfit created from scratch
  • a magazine cover
  • a mood board
  • a movie
  • a press release

To do this, the students had to use exclusively end-of-life textiles supplied by Elis: professional workwear, flat linen (sheets, bath towels, etc.), mats, hand towel rolls.

The project allowed the students to face up to a most daring challenge: to make Elis rhyme with fashion.

Result: bold looks, both elegant and offbeat, were presented during our event at the Palais de Tokyo. They highlighted the exceptional work of the students, as well as Elis' growing CSR commitment and its desire to pursue its circular economy approach more than ever.

The three winning groups were rewarded by a jury composed of our CSR director, and the Professional Workwear marketing team at Elis,

We warmly thank ESMod Lyon and its students for their enthusiasm and collaboration in this great project!
