Enhanced-visibility protective clothing for medium-risk situations – EN 17353 standard
In short
All employers must ensure the health and safety of their employees. Medium-risk situations often involve outdoor work, maintenance, construction or public safety. In these scenarios, it is essential to use suitable protective clothing to not only protect yourself from potential dangers, but also to be visible and therefore avoid accidents.
The EN 17353 standard specifies the requirements for enhanced-visibility clothing or equipment intended as a visual alert of the user’s presence. Clothing with enhanced visibility should protect the wearer in medium-risk situations.
The approved fluorescent colours are: yellow, yellow-green, yellow-orange, orange, orange-red, red and pink.
Levels of protection
Enhanced-visibility clothing and equipment are grouped into three types according to the conditions in which they are likely to be used, and are all designed for motion recognition:

- The fabrics are tested extensively to evaluate their resistance to wear
- The fastness of the fluorescent colours is checked after 50 washes using a spectrophotometer
